Target Audience
I have carried out both qualitative and quantitative research which has helped me create my perfect target audience and understand the different things that engage them as the audience. I have created a moon board that relates to my audience and the stereotypical idea of them.

Research- Institutions
I will be researching the major institutions in the industry and look at the independent and conglomerate ones.
A major film studio is a production and film distributor that releases a substantial number of films annually and consistently commands a significant share of box office revenue in a given market. In the North American, Western, and global markets, the major film studios, often simply known as the majors, are commonly regarded as the six diversified media conglomerates whose various film production and distribution subsidiaries collectively command approximately 80 to 85 percent of U.S. and Canadian box office revenue.[1][2] The term may also be applied more specifically to the primary motion picture business subsidiary of each respective conglomerate.
Most horror films require a big budget for the special effects, cameras, makeup etc.
The Hollywood film industry include THE BIG SIX which are six production and distribution companies. These 'Big Six' are: 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros., Paramount Pictures, Columbia Pictures, Universal Pictures & Walt Disney Pictures. Of these, 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros., and Paramount Pictures were part of the original 'Big Five' who operated during the Golden Age of Hollywood (late 1920s to mid-1940s).

Research- Media Regulations
Media content regulation in the UK revolves primarily around codes of practice, drawn up by a variety of bodies which are either entirely or largely independent, following wide public consultation. In some cases, these codes of practice have been developed by bodies with statutory powers over the media while in others the responsible bodies have been established by the media or journalists themselves. It is the purpose of this paper to describe the various codes of practice which are applied to the media, as well as the systems for promoting adherence to these codes.
The principal targets of media regulation are the press, radio and television, but may also include film, recorded music, cable, satellite, storage and distribution technology (discs, tapes etc.), the internet, mobile phones etc.
Digital technology in particular has dramatically changed what we perceive as ‘media’ and how this in turn has opened up debate on the concept of regulation – in previous times, even 10-20 years ago and certainly going back much further to the first acknowledged media artefacts the media was subject to much tighter regulation and censorship. This is to the point that many contemporary films like the Saw franchise simply would not have received a certificate – we have moved into an era of desensitisation however where audiences are saturated with media from a very early age and are far less shocked or effected (so the argument goes) by what they see and hear.
The British Board of Film Classification is a non-governmental organisation founded by the film industry.
Films for release in cinemas are classified by at least two examiners using guidelines.
The examiners will use the following ratings when classifying the films rating. They will look at key issues such as; horror, nudity, sexual violence, discrimination, language, violence etc.
By analysing this i was able to come up with my age restriction of the film which is 15 as it contains themes of violence and horror which may disturb younger viewers.

Research- Historical background on horror films
The first horror films are surreal, disturbing pieces, owing their visual appearance in part to expressionist painters and in part to spirit photography of the 1860s, and their narrative style to the stories played out by the Grand Guignol Theatre Company and drawn from Gothic literature. They draw upon the folklore and legends of Europe, and render monsters into physical form. Spirit photography – the practice of using double exposures or superimpositions to depict ghosts within a frame of film – was popular from the 1860s onwards, not only among Spiritualists (who may have believed the images were real, vindicating their belief in the afterlife) but also among stage musicians and their audiences, who delighted in the fakery as entertainment.
The first horror film on record is Le Manoir du Diable (1896), created by one of film's earliest visionaries, Georges Méliès. Although it has a running time of a little over three minutes, this supernatural story still manages to pack in the genre paradigms: bats, devils, witches, cauldrons, ghosts, trolls, all appearing and disappearing in puffs of smoke:
The Conjuring is a 2013 American supernatural horror film directed by James Wan and written by Chad Hayes and Carey Hayes. It is the first film in The Conjuring franchise.[3] Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga star as Ed and Lorraine Warren, paranormal investigators and authors associated with prominent cases of haunting. Their reports inspired The Amityville Horror.[4] The Warrens come to the assistance of the Perron family (Ron Livingston and Lili Taylor), who are experiencing increasingly disturbing events in their farmhouse in Rhode Island in 1971.[5]
The Conjuring was released in the United States and Canada on July 19, 2013, and in the United Kingdom and India on August 6, 2013. The film received positive reviews from critics and grossed over $318 million worldwide from its $20 million budget, making it one of the highest-grossing horror films of all time. A sequel, The Conjuring 2, was released on June 10, 2016, also to critical and huge commercial success.

Planning for film brief
Forest draft filming
For the film brief I produced a storyboard of each step that i would carry out so I knew exactly where to film and what to film. This type of layout made the day productive as i was able to follow out each part without confusion. This planning is helpful for when I make the last draft of the film brief as this is practise so I know whats to come and what I can improve on. I have uploaded the videos on here that where produced so it first starts in a forest and ends in her home. The treatment here helps as it identifies the whole story line so I can adapt the story from there. On the day I changed some of the ideas as when actually filming new ideas where formed so this is helpful for the real production as I can go exactly by the new treatment and create a new storyboard and look at the improvements I need to make.
Forest
There was tape saying police line do not cross which emphasises to the audience and makes them aware of the scene ahead. The idea of Amy wearing headphones indicates how she cannot hear the sirens when running up to the police scene and the signs, which makes it more intense. Also I took pictures of the layout that is taken place so below you can see there are warning signs as well as the tape. The atmosphere as well creates the horror scene as its very gloomy and she's by herself, so the weather was really important here but also the lighting so I made sure it wasn't too dark as then the pictures and the the actually filming won't be clear enough , so here I have figured out an improvement as i'm going to use a light above the camera.
Camera shots
When carry out this film brief, it contains different types of camera shots and from different angles including all the rules. When carrying out the task i was able when looking back on it pick out where the camera angles in some places didn't match when editing.
Sound
There will be no dialogue in this film brief as its the opening scene its more about the scenery and giving the audience an idea about what's ahead. There will be non-diegetic sound such as; sirens, footsteps, intense music (horror). The sound here is important so for the sirens, Amy has her headphones in so she cannot hear them which ands the the intensity as they we're a sort of warning in the forest for her not to go ahead. The non-diegetic music is important as when the serial killer approaches her it makes the audience aware that something bad is about to happen, this also engages the audience and puts them on edge as they are waiting.

The non-diegetic music will be slow, and calm when she's running through the forest but this slowly changes to a more faster paced sound, which will match the editing of the film.
Why is the opening of this important
The opening scene is very important especially for this type of horror film as it gives the audience as story outline of what the films about. It sets the scene so if he audience aren't engaged within those first few minutes then they will lose interest.
